Run Firefox 2 and 3 side by side with MultiFirefox (OSX only)
I’ve been putting off upgrading to FF3 only because I know it’ll mean that at least some of my stuff won’t work. Whether it’s a web site I use often or a plugin (like Firebug), my official policy is to wait a month or two until I start using a new browser.
Given that it’s rather difficult to run multiple versions of browsers side by side (why do they do this? certainly the developers of these things have to be able to switch around from one version to another, right?), this often means using a virtual machine for my testing.
Well, not anymore (for OSX users at least): MultiFirefox

But so you know, firebug works in FF3, just make sure you install version 1.2 and ignore the auto update failure.

Why not simply use different profiles?

AS JMG said – use different profiles. You won’t have any troubles if you have the different Firefox-versions in different directories and creates a profile for each one of them and a shortcut for them that looks like: “firefox.exe -P profilename -no-remote”
I’m right now using Firefox 3.0, Firefox 3.0 nightly and Firefox 3.1 nightly this way – it’s working really well.

All good things to know. It’s been a while since I tried to run two versions of Firefox next to each other and it used to be a pain.

Hey guys. Using multiple profiles is essentially what MultiFirefox does. It’s just meant to make doing that easier for all involved. It also makes it easy to run like 20 versions of Firefox if you, ya know… wanted to. It was meant to simplify the process you’re all describing… nothing more.

Another options is to install Netscape 9, that is exactly the same that Firefox 2.
